Coral Snake
I quite enjoyed the peace and the beauty of the walk, but I started to remember some of the stories I heard about the Sierra Nevada. One that particularly stuck out in my mind was, I had been told this mountain was home to tigers and jaguars. I was lost in thought following the mule down a deeply ingrained ditch of a path, when the mule started jumping around nervously. I was looking at the ground anyway, luckily because I just managed to side step a very agitated snake. It was red with black markings. I later found out, it was a red coral snake - of course extremely poisonous. I sighed and kept walking.
The day was wearing on and my empty stomach began to grumble. I had kept my eye out for any food, especially avocados along the way, but to no avail. I could remember a place along the path that had a couple of avocado trees. I had found one and eaten it on the way up, I knew it was coming up and I watched keenly for any signs. I was getting very hungry and I knew I still had a long walk ahead of me.
I saw some old avocado seeds and started to look around in hope of finding a fresh one. I looked everywhere, but could not find anything edible, until I saw this large black pig with her piglet. I am vegetarian, so it wasn’t the pig I had spotted, it was the perfectly ripe, large avocado lying on the ground next to her. The problem was, we had both spotted it. She grabbed it and I was in pursuit. I knew this was my last chance for food until I reached the town and I was beyond caring that it may well have been her lunch as well - I wanted that avocado. We ran around for a good 10 minutes, but she was too quick for me, and she knew exactly what I was after. She wasn’t going to give it up either. I resigned myself to an empty belly and kept walking.
Looking back, it does seem rather absurd I guess - resorting to compete for an avocado from the snorting snout of a pig - I guess you had to be there.
